From a Marxist point of view, culture is "bisexual' since it carries a double meaning; it puts end to slavery as well as it keeps it. Giving people the opportunity of free education is a kind of freedom since everybody has access to education, and since education leads to civilization. But from a Marxist point of view, by making education, capitalists are increasing the rate of birth. Therefore, more educated people, more workers, more money. This reminds of George Orwell in 1984, when he said: "War is peace. Freedom is slavery." War is peace to the politicians; it's peace to their money. Freing people by giving free education is enslaving them in a way. Facebook on thr internet gives the illusion of globalization, but it is also a slaverysince everybody becomes concerned in everybody's private life. It's not the openness of people to the world, but a slavery to eveybody's own world. Star Academy gives the illusion of producing professional singers and "stars", but in fact it's a slavery since it provides the capitalists with more money. The more singers, the more celebrations, the more money. The ending of descrimination against minorities is also a freedom and a slavery at the sam time. For example, by lowering the price of milk people would not limit the rte of birth. Therefore, more birh, more consumers, more workers, more money. It gives the illusion of freedom and equality between poor and rich by giving them access ovthe same product which is milk. Finally, daily radio programs on nutrition and health mak people consumers of a pacific kind of foodwhih is more expensive than ordinary food. It's an illusion of becoming healthier and physically good looking, but in fact it's more money for teir pockets.

Orientalism
The Orient doesn't exist on the map. It's an idea; it's a cultural myth. Before Edward Said, things are fine and happy. Many people hate Edward Saidbecause they think he disturbed orders. Before Said, woman is considered inferior to man; light above darkness; master higher than disciple; black better than white. this is why we have the canon in literature about the White Dead Man. The big work of the 19th -20thcentury is to break off the binary system. The job of postmodernism is to give this positive uncertainty about ultimates. Derrida, Foucault, Barthes has distabilized the Western philosophy. Said's work is to question this simplistic binary construction built on supplements and absolute. The man is stronger than the woman etc... Derrida said that without the supplement, we don't have the absolute.Without the woman, we don't have the man; without the Black, we don't have the White, etc... According to Said, when you position yourself as an analyzer, you see from a high perspective .The analyzee sees himself only; the analyzer sees himself and others. A neo-liberal Arab is the one who thinks that Arab are bad and the West has given us everything. Basically, culture is good; but it inhibits us from seing any other culture. Culture freezes us in a mold that is not totally true.

Postmodernism

Postmodernism appeared at the end of 1950/beginnig of 1960. The end of ideology, art or social class, the 'crisis' of Leninism, social democracy, and the welfare state, all of these together constitute what is called postmodernism. The case of its existence depends on radical break or coupure. Modifications appered most dramatically in architecture. Postmodernism inaugurates the arrival of a new society designated consumer society, media society, information society, electronic society or 'high tech'. Postmoderism is rather a culture more than a style. The American Postmodern society is the internal and superstuctural expression of a new wave of American military and economic domination throughout the world. The underside of culture is blood, torture, death and horror. The Foucault of the prison book is the obvious example that reflects domination. The terrorist win by constructing a closed terrifying machine. Postmodernism means the ned of the style in the sense of the unique and the personal. According to emotions, postmodernism is not the liberation from anxiety, but from any other kind of feeling. If the ideas of a ruling class were dominant, the advanced capitalist countries today are imposing their speech. According to a postmodern view of things, children singing during a singing lesson in school seem to be prisoners compelled to sing; the seem to be set apart from the rest of the wold. Computers and television are machines of reproduction rather than of production. In one word, the technology of contemporary society is fascinating because it controls our minds and our imagination. Although technology is fascinating, to what extent people can live without it nowadays?
